Sleep Hygiene

As statistics indicate, sleep health problems affect people in so many different ways that it is impossible to develop one universal solution that will remedy everyone. However, there is a simple approach known as "sleep hygiene" that many are taking to heart to improve personal sleep wellness. Sleep hygiene encompasses the environmental factors and behaviors that may be either detrimental or beneficial to sleep quality. Managing stress, diet, exercise and maintaining a bedtime regimen can assist in achieving better sleep. In addition, environmental factors such as darkness, temperature and noise impact sleep quality. What's more, one of the most overlooked areas that can easily be controlled is the quality of the sleep surface.

Optimizing the level of support the spine receives during the night is paramount to getting quality sleep. Studies show that when the correct amount of support is supplied, the spine remains aligned and a person can enjoy a thorough rest period for the entire night. However, if the spine is not aligned due to a non-supportive sleep surface, a person's back muscles work throughout the night in an attempt to position the spine properly. As a result, they wake up feeling sore and unrested.
